Hearing aids are amazing devices that can improve communication ease for nearly 20% of people with hearing loss worldwide.[1] Like other electronic devices, your hearing aids work best when you take good care of them. Let’s look at three simple steps to maintain your devices and keep that easier communication part of your life for as long as possible.
1. Clean Your Hearing Aids Nightly

Nightly cleanings remove built-up dust, wax and oil that accumulate on your devices throughout the day. Using a wax pick and brush, remove wax from the small seams and ports on your devices. Next, take a small, dry cloth and wipe down the casing, earmold and tubing. Replace the wax guards when necessary and run a vent cleaner through the vents. If they’re removable, detach your tubing and earmold, wash them and let them dry completely before reattaching.
You can complete all the above steps using a hearing aid cleaning kit. Your hearing aid manual will have more specific cleaning instructions for your device’s make and model.
2. Keep Your Hearing Aids Dry
Moisture can reduce battery life and degrade sound quality. If you’ve spent a lot of time at Grapevine Lake, or it’s been a particularly humid or rainy day, place your devices in an electric hearing aid dehumidifier or a drying jar filled with moisture-drawing beads.
3. Schedule Regular Service Appointments
Nightly cleaning and regular at-home moisture removal are just one part of a larger hearing aid care routine. You should also schedule regular hearing aid service appointments with one of our device specialists. We’ll deep clean your hearing aids, remove any remaining moisture and double-check their programming to ensure they’re still meeting your needs.
